Pupil Premium

Golden Valley Primary School offers a nurturing community, where all members are encouraged to aim high, push themselves and be kind and respectful to each other. We are committed to ensuring that all pupils, irrespective of their background or the challenges they face, develop good social skills and make strong academic progress across all subject areas. All learning experiences are designed to enable all pupils to achieve lifelong success and to develop a strong sense of pride in themselves.

Allocation of Pupil Premium funding

At Golden Valley, we are committed to ensure that the needs of all pupils are identified and effectively met, in order to close the attainment and progress gaps between disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged pupils. We deliver our Pupil Premium Strategy in line with the Lighthouse Schools Partnership (LSP) Disadvantaged Strategy. We recognise that there are many different barriers to learning and use a tiered approach as a basis to allocate the Pupil Premium Funding as outlined in the EEF Guide to the Pupil Premium 2023:

1. High quality teaching for all – Making sure an effective teacher is in front of every class, and that every teacher is supported to keep improving, is especially important tor socio-economically disadvantaged pupils. This is a top priority for Pupil Premium Spending. Strategies include: Securing the ‘catch up’ and progress of targeted learners through high quality teaching for all pupils:

  • developing high quality teaching for all pupils
  • securing that all pupils keep up and are enabled to catch up within the whole class environment
  • investment in professional development
  • training and support for early career teachers
  • recruitment and retention

2. Targeted academic support –Using specialist or specific targeted support to improve overall provision, as well as to accelerate the progress of disadvantaged pupils.

  • early identification of need and interventions which enable pupils to ‘keep up’
  • targeted academic support in class
  • individual, structured short interventions (not removing child from English or Maths lessons)
  • guided groups led within whole class lesson
  • effective use of assessment information and pupil progress meetings
  • regular evaluations of interventions, seeking evidence of effectiveness

3. Wider strategies – Minimising the impact of barriers to learning and promoting cultural capital through a focus on wider strategies.

  • identifying the barriers to learning for each child
  • focus on attendance
  • supporting pupil welfare and well-being
  • consistent and supportive behaviour management strategies
  • learning mentor and DHT support for pupils and their families
  • enriching experiences, including clubs, school visits and music lessons
  • ensuring pupils arrive ready to learn (providing breakfast, clothing, equipment)

We have a whole school ethos where all staff take responsibility for disadvantaged pupils’ outcomes and have high expectations of what all pupils can achieve. Our strategy will respond to common challenges and individual needs, identified through robust diagnostic and teacher assessment. The approaches we have adopted complement each other to help pupils excel. We will ensure that the effectiveness of interventions is monitored and adjusted as necessary.
